Indoor 4v4 Rules
Game Length: Two 20 minute halves with 5 min halftime
Field dimensions: 70 feet by 35 feet:
Team Composition:
- Each team consists of 4 players on the field at any given time with no goalkeepers.
- Teams may have up to 4 substitutes, and substitutions can be made at any stoppage of play. Substitutes must enter and exit the field through designated gates.
Game Duration:
- The game is played in two halves, each lasting 20 minutes with a 5-minute halftime break.
- The clock runs continuously, stopping only for major stoppages at the referee’s discretion.
Kick-Off:
- The game begins with a kick-off from the center circle.
- The team that wins the coin toss chooses to start the game with possession, and the opposing team kicks off to start the second half.
- The ball must be played backwards on the kick-off.
Scoring:
- Goals are scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line.
- There is no offside rule in 4v4 indoor soccer.
- After goals are scored, restarts must come to midfield.
Out of Play:
- The field of play is surrounded by walls or boards. Play continues if the ball hits the walls or boards.
- If the ball leaves the net, a kick-in is awarded to the opposing team from the point where it went out.
- Alternatively the ball can be played by the team in possession in their own defensive half.
- All restarts are indirect kicks.
Free Kicks & Goal:
- Free kicks are awarded for fouls, handballs, and other violations.
- The opposing team must be at least 5 feet away from the ball during free kicks. If the restart is in the defensive half, the defending team must retreat to the halfway line.
- If the ball is stuck in the corner with multiple players fighting for the ball, the team in possession will take possession in their defensive half, with the opposing team retreating to their defensive half.
Fouls and Misconduct:
- Common fouls include tripping, pushing, charging, and holding. These result in indirect free kicks.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct, such as dissent or dangerous play, may result in cautions (yellow cards) or ejections (red cards).
- Accumulated fouls: If a team commits more than a certain number of accumulated fouls in a half (usually 6+), the opposing team is awarded a free kick without a wall from the second penalty spot.
Uniforms
- Each team must have two sets of jerseys, a dark & light option.
- If Uniforms are conflicting, the Home team will change or wear pinnies.
Footwear
- Players are encouraged to wear indoor shoes on the turf.
- U9-U12 players may wear cleats clear of dirt and mud.
- U13+ Must wear indoor shoes. No cleats are allowed.
