Strength training has been found to have a surprising link to living longer. According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, people who did strength training at least twice a week had a 46% lower risk of death from any cause and a 41% lower risk of cardiac death compared to those who did not do any strength training. The study also found that the benefits of strength training were independent of aerobic exercise. This means that even if someone meets the recommended amount of aerobic exercise, they can still benefit from the additional strength training. [1]
